History
Westward Ho! is one of England's most unusual villages and the only place in the UK with an exclamation mark in its official name.
Founded in the 1860s, it was named after Charles Kingsley's bestselling 1855 novel Westward Ho!, which was inspired by the nearby North Devon coast.
The village quickly grew into a Victorian seaside resort, but beyond the promenade lies the rugged landscape of Northam Burrows, where wind, sea and time have shaped the coastline for thousands of years.
