History

Allerford is a historic village on the northern edge of Exmoor, situated along the River Aller. It is known for its well preserved traditional character, including its medieval packhorse bridge, historic forge, former Victorian schoolhouse and stone cottages.

The village formed part of the rural community of the surrounding Exmoor area, with farming, blacksmithing and other traditional trades playing an important role in its history.
