Name Origin
The stone takes its name from the vast coniferous forest that stands behind it.

Stones Placement
The Stone was discovered and placed by @dances_with_stones and now rests along the spruce line, just before the forest enterance point, leading to the Longridge Axe Stones.

History
The coniferous forest on Longridge Fell was largely established in the mid-19th century (c. 1850s) and expanded through the early 20th century (up to 1930s) as part of managed planting schemes.

Originally, the fell consisted of open heath, pasture, and scattered deciduous woodland, but conifers were introduced to supply timber for building and to stabilize the soil after quarrying and grazing.

Over time, these plantations created the dense evergreen backdrop seen today, blending historical land use with natural rewilding across the fell.
