History
The lime kilns near Berwick-upon-Tweed are reminders of the region's 19th-century industrial heritage. Limestone was burned here to produce quicklime for building mortar and improving farmland, with the finished product shipped along the Northumberland coast. Today, the surviving kilns stand as a testament to the area's quarrying and lime-burning past.
