History
Legend states that Harold Dagger was the first to lift the stone. Known in the local village of Clutone (now modern day Clutton) as "The Bull" due to his large head and immense strength. After the great storm of 1884 the stone was found blocking the stream that flows through the bottom of Dagger Wood campsite. It threatened to flood the pastures of his livestock so he heaved the stone to his chest and carried it around the field.
