Access Details
Parking: Start at Lugburthwaite Car Park what3words ///elevates.methods.enjoy. There is a small parking fee, keep your ticket, as it allows you to park at all other car parks around Thirlmere for the rest of the day.
The Nags Head Stones are accessed through a small gate from the car park, located in the grassed area nearby.
A five-minute drive brings you to a lay-by with free parking, giving access to the Gun Point Stones. They sit just up a slight incline along a gravel track from the lay-by, overlooking Thirlmere and offering fantastic views of the surrounding fells.
Another five-minute drive along the coastal road leads to Dog Gill Car Park. Display your ticket from Lugburthwaite Car Park, then walk approximately 50 metres along the road and through the gate to reach the Stennoch Stones.
A short three-minute drive brings you to the Kings Head Inn car park. The car park is for custormers, so please treat yourself to a cold drink / food at the Kings Head Inn after you have comleted the ciricut.
From the Kings Head Inn walk via the coastal path to the Daleshead Hall Stones. Follow the coastal path, and please do not enter the Dale Head Hall Lakeside hotel grounds or approach the hotel staff—the stones lie outside the hotel boundary and are not affiliated with the present hotel.
That completes the Valley O’Styans Circuit.
From here, you can choose to drive 3 more minutes to Dunmail Raise (lay-by, free parking) and take on the Kings of Cumbria Stone Circuit - The Kings' Stones and the Crown Stones. This is a seperate circuit, located close-by at Dunmail Raise and The Crown Stones located next to Grisedale Tarn.
