The Kings’ Stones are located in the field over the stile. They increase progressively in weight starting at 60kg, then 96kg, and finally 141kg.
Once you’ve tested yourself on the Kings’ Stones, you can follow in the footsteps of the last King of Cumbria’s soldiers, who are said to have carried the king’s crown up to Grisedale Tarn and gave it to a mountain witch who then threw it in the Tarn to keep it from falling into enemy hands.
The Crown Stones lie on the shores of Grisedale Tarn. The walk is around 2 miles with approximately 538 metres of elevation gain, following a clear and well-defined path up to the Tarn.
Be sure to save some energy, you’ll need it for the return journey along the same route back to your car.
