Name Origin
The stones distinctive shape represents a blue sharks head and sits atop the highest Fell in the Forest of Bowlad; Wards Stone.  “Ward” (Old English/Norse: watch/guard/lookout) reflects the summit’s role as the Forest of Bowland’s highest natural watch-point.

Named stones often carried mythic associations as haunted sites, ritual places, or land guardians—suggesting Ward’s Stone may have been seen as a protector of the fells.

Neolithic cup-marks, featuring rings and spirals, appear on rock formations near the trig point, which is close to sites where stone axe heads have been uncovered, indicating possible ritual or burial significance
