Name Origins
The stones are named after the old pub "The Nag's Head" which sat opposite Wythburn Church (as well as being similarly shaped to a horse’s skull). The Heads Dog is a companon stone added later to the Nags Head Stone.
Stone Placement
Stones placed by @conortoms_strongman. The Nags Head Stone was recovered from the remains of an old bridge that was washed out in the Valley during recent storms. Wythburn Church sat at the head of Thirlmere before the valley was flooded in 1894 to create a new reservoir.
Games and rural sports were known to take place in this area when the community still existed here. The stone is placed as a memory to them.
