Name Origin
Named after the location in York; Knavesmire. The name derived from Old English "knave" (commoner or servant) and "mire" (a marsh or bog). There is a suggestion that "Knavesmire" and "Knaresborough" may share a common derivation, with the name potentially being an Old Norse adaptation of "Cenward's mire" or an earlier name, but this is a debated etymology.
