History
The stones take inspiration from the Hansel and Gretel, popularised by the Brothers Grimm, with the woodland on Longridge Fell carrying a similar sense of mystery and folklore.
The dense conifer forest, winding paths, and shifting light create a storybook atmosphere, where it’s easy to lose your bearings before rediscovering the way.
Rising nearby, Pendle Hill—notorious for the 1612 witch trials—adds a darker historical edge, grounding the landscape in real tales of fear and superstition.
Together, the fairytale imagery and the legacy of the Pendle witches shape a place where losing the path and finding it again feels part of the journey, and where myth and history quietly intertwine.
